NEEF donors hit the links, raise funds for innovative grants

The North East Educational Foundation raised a record-breaking amount at the 14th annual Jerry Comalander’s Fore! The Kids Tournament held at Canyon Springs Golf Club on Sept. 20.

A total of 156 golfers, representing 42 companies, joined forces to raise more than $110,000 for the North East Educational Foundation. Funds raised will directly impact teachers and students through innovative grants.

NEEF board of directors worked hard to make the event a huge success and golf chair Kimberly Prater expressed her excitement for the big event.

“This is one of our most fun events and it’s very rewarding as the money goes directly back to our teachers,” Prater said. “We are very grateful for everyone coming out and playing and for their sponsorship of our event.”

For the fifth consecutive year, Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union (RBFCU) and RBFCU Retirement Program served as the title sponsor.

“It’s been our pleasure to be the top sponsor for the last five years,” RBFCU Senior Vice President of Credit Union Service Organization Ed Bronnenberg said. “We always look to partner with those organizations that are important to our members of the community and NEEF is definitely one of those.”

After several hours of a friendly competition, the tournament winners and raffle prize winners were announced during a special luncheon.

NEEF Executive Director Amy Lane took the opportunity to thank all of the sponsors for participating and supporting NEEF’s mission of expanding educational opportunities for NEISD students.

To conclude the event, former Executive Director of Athletics Jerry Comalander shared special remarks.

“It’s all about people, school business is about people and you guys have done a great job of supporting the people of North East ISD,” Comalander said. “Without people that will take an interest, nothing good happens. And you guys have done that. Your companies have done that. You can’t imagine how kids’ faces light up when their teacher tells them ‘we’ve been awarded a grant.’ Kids’ faces light up and that makes it very special.”

NEEF is a private non-profit charitable corporation that works to raise money to expand educational opportunities for the students of North East ISD. NEEF funds a wide range of innovative classroom projects, including cutting-edge technology, community gardens, special education resources and STEAM programs.
