Northwood Elementary School Showcases NEEF Innovative Grant

Life is about being flexible—and thanks to a North East Educational Foundation (NEEF) Innovative Grant at Northwood Elementary School, students are finding this fact out at a young age

Fifth-grade teacher, Marcy Hildebrand, saw a need for students to feel more comfortable in their learning environment. “Research shows students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment,” said Hildebrand. “Flexible seating, as well as flexible desks and tables, allows students to choose where they work and with whom.”

Northwood students are now working with other grade levels and learning in combined groups while taking advantage of the Collaborative Learning Center funded with a 2017-2018 NEEF Innovative Grant.

“I have never been so thankful for a group of strangers in my life,” said Hildebrand. “The Foundation’s generous contribution has affected the lives of the 450 current students at Northwood as well as every child that will walk through the doors of this amazing building for years to come.”
