The CTEC Tiny Hunting Cabin NEEF Grant is Perpetual!

The business of tiny home construction is big, and some North East ISD students are getting in on the action.
Thanks to a $19,028 grant from the North East Educational Foundation (NEEF), Construction Technology students at the Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) are getting to build a tiny hunting cabin in their construction class.

The grant enabled their teacher, Shawn Jensen, to purchase architectural and engineering plans, along with materials needed to build the tiny house, which will include plumbing, an HVAC system, a bedroom and bathroom. After the home is built, it will be sold, and funds will go toward purchasing materials for another tiny home for the next class to build.

“I love this project because it will help me in my future as a general contractor,” said Nathaniel Pena. After this experience, he hopes to build a tiny cabin for his family’s ranch.

NEEF provides innovative grants to augment the state’s allocation of funds to public schools so students and teachers can have all the resources to be competitive in today’s future working environment.
