Literary Alchemy, transforming books into music!

Apr 10, 2023 | Grants, Our Stories

Angela Leonhardt describes the Musical prisms grant as one written to “include diverse children’s literature in the music classroom so that all children feel represented based on wherever they come from. We know when we see a prism or a kaleidoscope when all the colors mix together, it makes a beautiful picture. Just like our classrooms, making beautiful music together with all the students.”

Mrs. Leonhardt first reads the story and applies a historical or cultural background, then she teaches a musical theme and/or song to go with the story. The book they read that day was “Your name is a Song.” She composed the lyrics and the musical lesson that was taught using xylophones.
