At Pre-K Academy, creativity and innovation are at the heart of enhancing student learning experiences. Recently, Instructional Coach Fatima Vasquez and Librarian Teresa Bernal-Martinez took a bold step to elevate the educational environment by transforming a space into a remarkable Sensory Lab, made possible through a generous NEEF grant of $5,290.18. The Sensory Lab has become our youngest learners’ vibrant exploration and engagement hub. This remarkable space is designed to stimulate all the senses, featuring light boxes, light cubes, fiber optic strands, a ball pit, and various tactile toys. It’s a place where children can discover the joy of learning through play, allowing them to immerse themselves in experiences that cater to their tactile, visual, and auditory needs.
Students may need extra time to explore, communicate, and interact with their environment. The Sensory Lab provides that opportunity, significantly aiding in our students’ cognitive development. It encourages sharing, fosters social skills, and cultivates respect for others—essential attributes that will benefit them in their academic journeys and within their communities.
One of our enthusiastic Pre-K students, Yaretzy Aguilar Luna, shared her delight in the “Sensational Sensory Space.” She expressed, “I like the ball pit the most!”
The Sensory Lab is proving to be an invaluable resource at Pre-K Academy. It blends education and play to enrich the lives of our students.
