Simmering Success: Little Chefs in Pre-K Cooking Class

Mar 19, 2024 | Grants, Our Stories

For just over $2,707, Mrs. Kalinec’s pre-K class was treated to a fun and educational cooking lesson. This lesson involved a book about a certain food, and the children were encouraged to create a dish using the ingredients from the book. While cooking, the young students integrated learning about literacy, science, math, nutrition, and more! They also gained practical life skills at an early age and were encouraged to partake in healthy eating habits. To make this possible, Debi and Instructional Coach Fatima Vasquez purchased a cart, a burner, a rice cooker, kitchen items, books, and ingredients.

The children learned how to cut vegetables safely, measure ingredients, and had a great time mixing the ingredients by shaking a bowl and their whole bodies! They then enthusiastically ate a new Asian food that was full of nutrients! Aria Villarreal flashed a big smile when she proclaimed, “ This is yummy,” and “I like cooking!”

What a great way for the children to learn. Who knows, maybe they will lend their parents a hand in the kitchen, thanks to Mrs. Vasquez and Mrs. Kalinec!
